|The Pastor’s Desk is a dedication by Life in Christ’s Senior Pastor (currently Pastor Tony Canicosa) addressed to the LIC congregation. Comparable to an Editor’s Note at the beginning of a magazine, the Pastor’s Desk is published bi-monthly as part of LIC’s newsletter, “The River of Life.”
Spirit, Soul, and Body
(Published in LIC’s Newsletter, River of Life – July 2015:)
The world measures man according to his Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and according to his Emotional Quotient (EQ). A higher quotient is translated to an upgraded salary, position in his company or even his status in life. He is a success by this world’s standard. Man lives in a two dimension nature; body and soul.
However, this was not the case in the beginning. God created man according to His image and likeness. The triune God showed Himself to His creation as our Father (the Creator), Son Jesus (the Saviour), and the Holy Spirit, (our Comforter). Man before was composed of spirit, soul and body. But when Adam and Eve fell into sin, the Spirit of God left man. Now, man lives within the five senses of his body and his will which is his soul.
Solomon was the wisest of all men, but he did not end well with God. The rich young ruler did everything according to the Law of God, but he still lacks something in his life. This was also the case of Cornelius who feared God and gave alms generously. They all need Jesus in their lives.
God sent His Son Jesus, not only to save man from hell, but also to restore His Spirit in him. A saved person gives priority to his Spiritual Quotient (SQ). Now the Lord is the Spirit (2 Cor. 3:17). He is now at peace with his Father in heaven, knowing His plans and becomes transformed into the character of Jesus the Son of God and the Holy Spirit as Lord of his life.
To end, Paul wrote to the Christians in Thessalonica; “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
